Team Ontario Roller Derby

In 2022 Team Ontario Roller Derby was formed as a way to bring together athletes who demonstrated exceptional skills and roller derby experience within the province of Ontario. They had a goal in mind to play against other provincial, state, national and boarderless teams. As they were putting the team together, they realized that they needed a logo and branding that would reflect their goals and establish them as serious force in women's flat track roller derby.

Project Objective

Create a recognizable brand that captures the spirit of Ontario and Women's Flat Track Roller Derby.

Keywords:  Professional,  Proud, Intense

PRIMARY LOGO

Team Ontario expressed wanting to pay homage to the land while and also have a recognizable derby element within the design. With these thoughts in mind I combined Ontario’s provincial flower of a trillium with parts of a skate wheel and bearing to create the main symbol for the team.

I took inspiration for the colours from the natural beauty found within the province of Ontario. Deeper or bright greens would have been a typical choice when thinking of Ontario’s natural beauty, but after reasearching other similar teams I found that those greens were a common colour combination. Instead I took inspiration from Ontario’s many rocky shorefronts, and decided on a light seafoam green and grey combination. These lighter colours mixed with the bold black typography bring a sense fluidity and strength, which fits perfectly within the sphere of women’s flat track roller derby.
