Not Another D&D Podcast

Not Another D&D Podcast (or NADDPod) is a live-play Dungeons & Dragons comedy podcast featuring former College Humour alums Brian Murphy, Caldwell Tanner, Emily Axford and Jake Hurwitz. They are currently the top 10 most popular podcast on Patreon based on patron count. Since 2022, I've been continuously commissioned by them with them to design merchandise for their online store.

Being asked to work on on their merchandise has given me the opportunity to work on an expansive variety of items, including products like glassware, clothing, and dice sets. Some of these items have been Patreon exclusive merchandise that was successful enough that it was sold as a permanent item on their online store.

Project Objective

How can I create content that resonates with the general audience of NADDPod while also appealing to its dedicated, long-time fans?

Keywords:   Playful,   Referential,  Ridiculous

Postcards

I was commissioned to create a series of postcards based on fan favourite quotes and references. Each design features a typographic treatment from three of the campaigns as well as one from their Patreon exclusive show.

Originally I created the “What an Injustice” design for zine that was put together by fans of the podcast. After seeing the design on X, one of the hosts of the show reached out and commissioned me to create the rest of the designs in the series.

Dice Set

The majority of tabletop roleplaying games use a 20 sided dice in order to predict the outcome of a player's actions. Rolling a 1 or a 20 on the dice either gives your character a critical failure or success, so I added illustrations to these panels to highlight the importance of both of these numbers.

A unique detail on these dice are a feature on the number 2. The main cast rolls 2’s so often that they started saying “Shout out to the 2 crew” whenever it’s rolled, and now feature the number 2 on much of their other merchandise and branding.

D&D Court

I was commissioned to create a logo for their spin-off show Dungeon Court. On the show the cast takes on the roles of judges, bailiffs, and justices and they deliberate on fan-submitted questions and disputes related to tabletop role-playing games. Caldwell Tanner created the rough illustrations for the logo and I was asked to work on the lineart, typography and colour pallet.

Belt Bag

Caldwell Tanner asked to collaborate with me to create fun, 80's inspired belt bag. Tanner created the rough sketches for the icons and I completed the clean line art, pattern and patch design.

Pint Glasses

For this set of glasses I was asked to create logos for four fictional bars & and an alcoholic beverage that had been mentioned throughout the first campaign. Each one had been mentioned or visited in the fictional fantasy world of Bahumia, and all had their own unique style and flavouring that needed to be distinct from one another as each bar was located in a different part of the world.

I collaborated with Caldwell Tanner with some of the character drawings such as the Bullywug (Frog). Tanner sketched out the rough concept of this character and I added the typographic and colour elements to the design.

In 2024 similar to the pint glasses, I was commissioned to design bar coasters based on locations from their third campaign.
